Blackburn with Darwen receives £1.1m to improve early years support for families, enhancing vital services for children and parents.

The grant totals £1,131,800 and is part of a larger £126 million fund from the Start for Life program. Cllr Julie Gunn, who oversees children’s services, shared that the Family Hubs have been making a real difference since they opened in June 2023.
These hubs focus on supporting families during those crucial early years. They offer services that help parents feel good, strengthen family bonds, and promote healthy child growth. Families can get personalized advice to ensure their kids have the best start possible.
Cllr Gunn expressed excitement about the funding, emphasizing its importance for ongoing access to essential services. She highlighted Blackburn with Darwen’s commitment to helping families thrive.
Andy MacNae, the Labour MP for Rossendale and Darwen, also chimed in, saying he’s thrilled that families will benefit from this funding boost. He noted that the Labour government aims to give every child a great start in life, and this funding will make a significant impact.
Andrew Gwynne, the public health minister, added that this investment is key to raising a healthier generation. He pointed out that the first two years of a child’s life are crucial for their future well-being. That’s why they’re focusing on early years support, especially in areas that need it most.
