Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport retains its title as the busiest airport globally, with impressive capacity numbers for 2024.

Atlanta: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has done it again! It’s been named the busiest airport in the world for the second straight year.
According to OAG, which ranks airports based on scheduled capacity, ATL handled a whopping 62.7 million seats in 2024. They look at how many seats airlines plan to fill, not just the number of passengers who actually flew.
In fact, four of the top ten busiest airports are in the U.S. Dallas/Fort Worth came in fifth, Denver was sixth, and Chicago-O’Hare snagged the tenth spot.
Here’s the full list: Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL), Dubai International (DXB), Tokyo International – Haneda (HND), Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW), Denver International (DEN), Shanghai Pudong International (PVG), and Chicago O’Hare International (ORD).
John Grant, OAG’s Chief Analyst, mentioned that Atlanta’s success shows its strength as a major hub for both domestic and international flights. He also noted that recent growth in Dallas/Fort Worth and Denver shows how competitive the U.S. market is, giving travelers more options.
Atlanta saw a 2% increase in capacity compared to last year, and all ten of the busiest airports experienced growth. Shanghai Pudong made the biggest leap, moving from 15th to 9th place with a 29% increase in capacity.
Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, and Chicago all saw their capacity rise by 5-9%. Pretty impressive, right?
