Frederick: A man shot by police was wanted for child sex crimes. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office shared bodycam footage from the incident that happened last August at a Super 8 Motel.

It all started on August 1, 2024, when deputies found the suspect’s car at the motel. They confirmed he was staying there and tried to talk to him through his room door.

In the footage, you can hear the officers trying to convince him to come out peacefully. But the guy kept saying he was armed and wouldn’t surrender.

The standoff went on until about 1 a.m. on August 2. Just before the shooting, the man opened the door briefly, showed a gun, and then went back inside. That’s when the officers felt they had to act.

After the shooting, the bodycam shows the officers rushing to help the injured man, who was later airlifted to a trauma unit in Baltimore. Last we heard, he was in critical but stable condition.

Luckily, no officers or motel guests were hurt during the incident. Both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while Maryland State Police investigate further.

For those interested, the full bodycam footage is available online, but viewer discretion is advised.
