Bronx: A language barrier might have been a big factor in the shooting of a man with a knife. This guy was shot by police outside his apartment after confronting someone he thought was a burglar.

The man, a Mexican immigrant who doesn’t speak English, may not have understood the cops telling him to drop the knife. He was trying to protect his air conditioning unit from a guy he thought was trying to steal it.

He actually called 911 before running out to confront the suspect. There are videos showing him in the alley, and then the police opened fire when he came back into the hallway. They found a butcher knife at the scene.

The police said he spoke Spanish when he called for help, and they’re looking into whether he and the officers could communicate properly.

A neighbor mentioned how quickly the cops arrived. He saw them rush in while he was walking his dog. He heard the officers say the man went after the burglar with a knife.

It all happened so fast. One neighbor described hearing two shots and seeing the man bleeding when they brought him out. He felt the shooting was too quick.

Another neighbor also heard the shots and was scared by the whole situation. The police are still on the lookout for the alleged thief.
