Bury’s market saw a surge in coach visits, attracting shoppers from across the UK and highlighting its historic charm.
Bury: Last year, Bury’s market became a hotspot for coach trips, with about 23 groups rolling in weekly. That’s nearly 1,200 coach parties visiting from places like Truro and Aberdeen.
It’s a 7.15% jump from 2023, which was already up 15% from 2022. Bury Council is thrilled, saying this shows just how popular the historic market is.
Exciting news: Bury Market is in the running for Britain’s Favourite Market again in 2025! November was the busiest month, with 187 coach visits, followed by October with 180.
September wasn’t too shabby either, with 131 coach arrivals. Wednesdays turned out to be the most popular day for these visits.
According to the council, most coaches came from Sheffield, with others from Preston, Liverpool, Llandudno, and Stoke-on-Trent. Coun Charlotte Morris said, “Word has spread that Bury Market is the place to be for a fantastic atmosphere and great bargains.”
She added that they’re investing millions to keep the market a beloved spot for years to come. Bury Market ranks third in foot traffic in Greater Manchester, right after the Arndale and Trafford Centre.
As for the Britain’s Favourite Market award, over 40,000 votes were cast in the early stages. It’s organized by the National Association of British Market Authorities as part of the Great British Market Awards 2025.
The top 10 markets include Bury Market, Chelmsford Indoor Market, and others. Next, a panel of experts will evaluate them to decide the winner, which will be announced at the NABMA conference in Birmingham on January 30.
