Flags at the U.S. Capitol will be raised for Trump’s inauguration despite mourning rules

He said, “On January 20th, the flags will fly at full-staff to celebrate our country coming together for the inauguration of our 47th President, Donald Trump.” But, he also mentioned that they’ll go back to half-staff the next day.
Now, this is where it gets a bit tricky. Johnson’s move goes against U.S. Code, which says flags should stay at half-staff for 30 days after a former president’s death. Plus, President Biden had already signed a proclamation to keep flags at half-staff until January 28 to honor Carter.
Earlier this month, Trump expressed his frustration on social media, saying he didn’t want to see flags at half-mast during his inauguration. But, fun fact: flags were actually at half-mast during Nixon’s second inauguration back in 1973 after Truman passed away.
Also, Texas Governor Greg Abbott jumped in, saying he’d raise flags at full height in Texas on January 20 to celebrate the new president. It seems like there’s a bit of a showdown happening here!
