Fort Worth: Car thefts are on the rise, with police reporting a 4% increase from last year. They’ve even mapped out where most of these thefts are happening.
Some residents, like Katie Crum, are feeling the impact. She woke up one morning to find her daughter’s car missing from their driveway. They thought it was gone for good.
Luckily, two weeks later, the police found the car. But it was in rough shape, filled with drug paraphernalia and other disturbing items.
The police have identified hot zones for thefts, especially around busy areas like malls. They’re urging drivers to take precautions, like locking doors and parking in well-lit spots.
Some folks believe the police need to step up their presence in these areas. Crum expressed that more needs to be done to protect drivers.
To tackle the issue, the police are using bait cars and placing marked and unmarked vehicles in strategic spots to deter thieves. They’re also looking for blind spots that need better surveillance.
Hulen Mall mentioned they have a solid security program in place, while La Gran Plaza is still working on their response to the situation.
