Authorities have identified the source of a tragic carbon monoxide leak that claimed the lives of a vacationing family in New Hampshire.

Wakefield: It’s heartbreaking to hear about the Goldstein family from Newton, Massachusetts. They were on vacation when a carbon monoxide leak took their lives on Christmas Day.
The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal, Sean Toomey, shared that the leak came from a propane heating system at their rental home. Apparently, the ventilation system was damaged, which led to the deadly gas escaping.
Matthew, Lyla, Valerie, and Violet Goldstein were all found in the home. They were supposed to be enjoying the holidays, but instead, they tragically lost their lives. Three of them were discovered in a bedroom, while one was in the bathroom.
The medical examiner confirmed that Valerie and Violet died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Matthew’s cause of death is also linked to the gas, but they’re still looking into the details for Lyla.
This awful incident serves as a reminder for everyone to check their heating systems regularly and make sure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly. It’s so important to stay safe.
The investigation is still ongoing, and we can only hope that this tragedy raises awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide.
