A new report shows Columbus, Ohio, attracted over 75,000 millennials in 2023, making it a top destination for young adults.

A SmartAsset study found that over 75,000 folks aged 25 to 44 moved to Columbus in 2023. That’s a big deal! The city ranked 13th overall for millennial move-ins, even beating out big names like San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
Interestingly, about 34% of Columbus’s population is now made up of millennials. Meanwhile, Cleveland and Cincinnati also saw a good number of young people moving in, but not quite as many as Columbus.
This report comes at a time when Ohio’s overall population is expected to decline. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that around 184,281 people left the state in 2023. Projections suggest Ohio could lose about 675,552 residents by 2025.
So, where are millennials heading in the U.S.? The top cities include Alexandria, Virginia, and Cambridge, Massachusetts, with Columbus making a strong showing. It’s clear that while some areas are struggling, Columbus is thriving and attracting a younger crowd.
