Chandler: A tragic situation unfolded when a ghost gun was linked to a school shooting in California. This gun was reportedly sold by a convicted felon from Arizona.

Steven Lyons, a 77-year-old from Buckeye, bought the gun legally in April 2024. He got it from a widow, but then sold it to Jesse Kitagawa Jr., who didn’t mention he was a felon.

Just two days later, Kitagawa sold the Glock 19 ghost gun to Glenn Litton, the suspected shooter, for $300 at a motel in Chandler. This all happened before the shooting at Feather River Adventist School in Oroville.

On December 4, 2024, Litton injured two young boys and then took his own life. Kitagawa was arrested in January 2025 and admitted to selling the gun, knowing he wasn’t allowed to own one.

He’s now facing charges for possession of a weapon as a prohibited person. His criminal history includes various offenses, which makes this situation even more concerning.

Ghost guns are tricky because they lack serial numbers and can be made from different parts, making them hard to trace. Just hours before the school shooting, a similar ghost gun was used in a murder in New York.
