Daytona Beach: A man is in custody for raping a woman at a home on Grandview Avenue last week. Jeremy Starliper, 40, reportedly drove the victim to a New Smyrna Beach location, where he forced her out of his car at gunpoint.

Authorities were alerted after medical staff at Halifax Health Medical Center contacted them when the woman sought treatment. She underwent a rape examination at the hospital.

The victim had several cuts and injuries, indicating she had been beaten multiple times. Starliper was arrested on January 7 and is facing serious charges, including sexual battery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping. He’s currently held without bail in the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Court records reveal that Starliper, a military veteran, has serious mental health issues. He was previously ordered to surrender any firearms after being found hallucinating with a Glock and ammunition in February 2024.

This is a troubling situation, and it’s important for the community to stay informed and vigilant.
