The Texans have waived Diontae Johnson after a postgame outburst, marking his third team change this season amid ongoing struggles.

At 28, Johnson only managed three catches for 24 yards with the Texans, including a single 12-yard grab in their wild-card win against the Chargers. After that catch, he was visibly upset, and teammates tried to console him, sensing his frustration over missed chances.
Now, he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent as the Texans gear up to face the Chiefs in the Divisional Round. Johnson’s career has been a rollercoaster, with four teams in six years, including two trades and two cuts.
Before this season, he was traded from the Steelers to the Panthers. His time with the Ravens was short-lived, as they cut him after he expressed dissatisfaction with his role. He only had one catch for 6 yards in four games there and even refused to enter a game against the Eagles, leading to his suspension.
Initially, things seemed promising with the Texans. Head coach DeMeco Ryans praised his practice performance leading up to the Chargers game, saying he was impressed with Johnson’s progress. But once the game started, it all fell apart.
Johnson’s best season was in 2021 with the Steelers, where he made the Pro Bowl with 107 catches for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns. Since then, he hasn’t reached the 1,000-yard mark again. It’s been a tough journey for him, and now he’s left searching for a new opportunity.
