Seattle: So, a bunch of dogs and cats just got a lift to Western Washington to escape the chaos in California. With those wildfires raging, shelters down south are overflowing, and it’s a real mess.

Thanks to a team-up between the Seattle Humane Society, Paws for Life K9 Rescue, Wings of Rescue, and the Pittie Project PNW, a plane landed at Boeing Field packed with 76 furry friends. The Seattle Humane Society took in 39 dogs and 18 cats, while the Pittie Project PNW welcomed 6 pit bulls.

Alison Waszmar from the Seattle Humane Society shared how great it feels to help these pets and the folks in Los Angeles. The animals came from Paws for Life, which does amazing work to support both animals and people through various programs.

Ric Browde, the president of Wings of Rescue, emphasized how crucial it was to get these animals out of the shelters. If they hadn’t, many would have faced euthanasia to make space for more pets coming in due to the wildfires.

Ashley Georgia from Pittie Project PNW mentioned they were set to take in 8 dogs, but two weren’t cleared for travel. She pointed out that even before the fires, California shelters were already packed.

All the groups involved are gearing up for more rescue efforts. They’re not just reacting to the aftermath; they’re in the thick of it, and the need for help is ongoing.

Browde said they have five more flights planned in the coming months. It’s a big job, but they’re all in it together. The Seattle Humane Society hopes the new arrivals will be ready for adoption soon, possibly as early as Tuesday, after their medical checks.
