State College: Just days after Penn State’s playoff run ended, quarterback Drew Allar has decided to stick around for another season. Reports say he’s officially returning for his fourth year with the Nittany Lions.

In the semifinal game against Notre Dame, Allar had a rough outing, throwing for only 135 yards and an interception. Back in December, he hinted to the coaching staff that he wanted to return, but there was still some buzz about him possibly entering the 2025 NFL Draft.

If he had gone for the draft, he would have been one of the top quarterbacks available, right behind names like Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward. But now, he’ll be part of a 2026 class that could feature big names like Arch Manning.

Allar came to Penn State as a highly-rated prospect, ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in his class. After a year as a backup, he took the starting role and had a solid season, throwing 25 touchdowns and just two picks.

During the 2024 season, he racked up 2,668 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He helped lead the team to impressive wins against SMU and Boise State before the tough loss to Notre Dame.

In that game, he struggled, especially with a critical throw late in the fourth quarter that set up Notre Dame for the winning field goal. After the game, Allar was candid, saying, “We didn’t win the game so it wasn’t good enough.”

Now, he’s focused on improving and hopes to lead Penn State back to the playoffs next year.
