Foulridge: A Paralympic gold medallist rower just got an honorary membership at a golf club. Gregg Stevenson, who lost both legs in Afghanistan, is the man of the hour.

He won gold in the PR2 mixed double sculls at the Paris Paralympics with Lauren Rowles. His amazing achievement earned him an MBE in the 2025 New Year Honours for his contributions to rowing.

The Skipton Golf Club is a place he knows well. He often joins the On Course Foundation charity day, which helps veterans and service personnel. Last September, he was one of 15 participants in an event that raised £20,000, adding to a total of £300,000 over the years.

After the recent fundraiser, the club’s board recognized how golf has helped in his recovery. They all agreed to give him honorary membership, celebrating him as a local hero and skilled golfer.

This membership means he can play in all competitions and enjoy full access to the course and clubhouse. The club hopes he’ll also become an ambassador for them.

Ian Sewell, the chairman, mentioned how crucial golf has been for Gregg’s recovery. He said they were thrilled to offer him this honor, especially since he’s a fantastic golfer too.

Gregg was over the moon about the membership, saying he’s excited to represent the club whenever he can.
