This weekend in Newport County features MLK celebrations, charity hockey, and art events for everyone to enjoy

The NAACP’s celebration kicks off at 9 a.m. on Monday with a Torch Run Ceremony at Patriots Park in Portsmouth. The Birthday Program follows at Thompson Middle School, featuring guest speaker Owen Hwang from Stages of Freedom.
A luncheon at Green Valley Country Club will be held at noon, with tickets priced at $55 for adults and $25 for students. Jonathan Lewis, a Kingian Nonviolence trainer, will speak at the event.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m., the Martin Luther King Center in Newport will host activities, trivia, and snacks. The day wraps up with a Worship Service at 5:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army.
On Saturday, the Newport Art Museum will host Funda Fest, celebrating Black storytelling from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s a free event that’s perfect for all ages.
