California Governor Gavin Newsom challenges Trump’s claims about wildfire management

Los Angeles: So, Gavin Newsom is really pushing back against Donald Trump. The California governor took issue with Trump’s harsh words about how the state is handling the wildfires.
Newsom called out Trump for spreading “disinformation” and invited him to see the damage firsthand. He mentioned he sent a letter to Trump last week, urging him to come out and take a look.
In an interview, Newsom said he wants to work together, not against each other. He’s tired of the back-and-forth and believes misinformation doesn’t help anyone.
Trump has been pretty vocal, calling California’s leaders “incompetent” and criticizing their fire management. He’s also been pushing for better forest and water management in the state.
Newsom is advocating for a “Marshall Plan” to help rebuild Los Angeles County after the fires. He’s worried about the federal aid being tied to demands for reforms, which he feels could be a tactic Trump has used before.
First responders are working hard to control the Palisades and Eaton Fires, while other fires have been contained. Sadly, the wildfires have already claimed at least 16 lives and destroyed over 12,300 homes and businesses.
When asked if these fires could be the worst natural disaster in U.S. history, Newsom agreed, especially considering the costs involved. He’s also facing criticism for budget cuts to the fire department and issues with water supply during the crisis.
Newsom is calling for an independent investigation into the dry fire hydrants that hindered firefighters. He’s also planning executive actions to prevent price gouging and streamline rebuilding efforts.
With the 2028 Olympics and 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Newsom is focused on rebuilding Los Angeles County. He’s already got a team working on a plan to reimagine the area and ensure everyone is included in the recovery.
He even acknowledged that Trump helped bring the Olympics to the U.S., so there’s a bit of credit where it’s due.
