Exeter: Have you ever thought about what to do with your eggshells? Well, don’t toss them! A gardening expert has a neat trick that can help your plants thrive.

Laura, who runs the Young Growers Club, shared this tip on TikTok. She says you can turn eggshells into a natural fertilizer that’s super easy and cheap to make.

To whip it up, just bake the eggshells to get rid of any moisture and contaminants. Then, crush them up and mix them with organic apple cider vinegar. Let it sit, and you’re good to go!

In her video, Laura shows how she uses this homemade fertilizer during the growing season. It’s packed with calcium, which is great for your plants. She bakes the shells for about 15 minutes at 160C, but keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.

After baking, she carefully breaks them up using a cloth and a rolling pin. Then, she fills a small jar with the crushed shells and adds the vinegar, leaving some space to avoid a messy overflow.

Once it’s all mixed, a bit of foam will form. This reaction makes the calcium available for your plants. Laura suggests using it for tomatoes and peppers, which love that extra boost.

Before using it, let the jar sit in a dark place for a few weeks. When it’s ready, just dilute it with water—one tablespoon to 10 liters is the way to go.

Some followers were curious about why she bakes the shells. Laura explained it helps eliminate any contaminants. Others were excited to try this method themselves.

As spring approaches, this could be a fun and effective way to enhance your garden. Give it a shot and see how your flowers and veggies respond!
