The special counsel’s report challenges President Biden’s comments on his son’s pardon

In the report, Special Counsel David Weiss made it clear that the president can’t just “rewrite history.” He pointed out that Biden’s comments about the case were unfair and hurt the reputation of the DOJ. Weiss said that Biden’s claims about the prosecution being a “miscarriage of justice” were disputed by the prosecutors.
Weiss also mentioned that when politicians criticize career prosecutors, it shakes the public’s trust in the justice system. He felt that Biden’s statements were damaging not just to the DOJ but to all public servants trying to do their jobs right.
Biden pardoned Hunter back in December, just before he was supposed to be sentenced for a pretty rare charge about drug users having guns. Interestingly, Biden had said during his 2024 campaign that he wouldn’t pardon his son, even after he dropped out of the race.
Weiss, who had support from both parties when he was appointed U.S. attorney in Delaware, continued his work under Biden. He was later named special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2023.
Oh, and there’s more! The Justice Department is also gearing up to release a report on Jack Smith’s investigation into Donald Trump’s actions after the 2020 election.
