Washington, D.C.: So, special counsel Jack Smith just dropped a report saying that Trump would have been convicted for messing with the election if he hadn’t won reelection. Can you believe that?

In his report, Smith said the evidence was strong enough to nail Trump if he hadn’t been elected again. He really went after Trump, calling out his lies and the crazy conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results.

Smith pointed out that Trump’s actions were a big deal, saying they were some of the worst offenses ever. He quoted a federal guideline that basically said this was a serious case with a lot of public harm.

Most of the stuff in the report wasn’t new, but it still hit hard. Smith said Trump’s whole game plan was built on deceit, using lies to undermine democracy.

He also laughed off Trump’s claims that Biden was behind the investigation, calling it ridiculous. Smith made it clear that he alone decided to charge Trump, standing by his choice as a prosecutor.

Trump, of course, didn’t take it well. He called Smith “deranged” and dismissed the report as fake. He even questioned why it came out at midnight, even though a judge set that timing.

Smith’s report detailed Trump’s alleged schemes, like trying to get state lawmakers to change the election results and pressuring the Justice Department with false fraud claims. Plus, he stirred up his supporters to storm the Capitol on January 6.

Interestingly, Smith didn’t charge Trump with insurrection because he felt there wasn’t enough legal backing for that. He said most of Trump’s actions were done as a candidate, not as president.

Smith put together two volumes of the report: one on the election interference and another about Trump taking classified documents to his Mar-a-Lago estate. The classified documents part is sealed for now since there might still be a case against some of Trump’s associates.
