Las Vegas: Senator Jacky Rosen is back at it, reintroducing a bill that aims to eliminate taxes on tips. This is a big deal for many workers in Nevada, where tipped jobs are common.

Rosen teamed up with Senator Ted Cruz to push the No Tax on Tips Act. She pointed out that Nevada has the highest percentage of tipped workers in the country. “It’s crucial that these workers keep more of their hard-earned money,” she said.

Rosen shared her own experience as a waitress, recalling how tough it was to make ends meet. She earned just $1 an hour before tips, which makes this issue personal for her.

The bill has some safeguards too. For instance, it won’t apply to those making over $150,000 a year. While it doesn’t get rid of the subminimum wage, Rosen is all for that change as well.

In Nevada, tipped workers earn at least $12 an hour, unlike in some states where they can make as little as $2.13. This bill is part of a broader push that started during the election cycle when Trump promised to eliminate taxes on tips.

Rep. Steven Horsford also has a similar bill in the works, aiming to tackle both taxes on tips and the subminimum wage. He’s excited about Rosen’s bill, seeing it as a step in the right direction.

Rosen is optimistic about the bill’s chances, especially with support from both the president-elect and congressional Republicans. “I’m ready to work with anyone to help Nevada families,” she said.

Support is rolling in from local unions too. Culinary Local 226’s Ted Pappageorge believes that eliminating taxes on tips could really help hospitality workers. He’s calling for collaboration between House Republicans and Democrats to raise the subminimum wage and tackle rising prices.
