Celebrity fitness expert Jillian Michaels believes California’s political landscape will shift after Governor Newsom’s handling of recent wildfires.

Los Angeles: Jillian Michaels, the celebrity fitness guru, thinks California might lean Republican soon. She’s not happy with how Governor Gavin Newsom has dealt with the wildfires.
Jillian, who used to live in California, moved to Florida in 2021. She got fed up with the state’s leadership. Her shift from a lifelong Democrat to a Trump supporter started after the 2018 Malibu fire destroyed her home.
She feels that personal experiences can change your views. “When it touches you, it changes you,” she said. She believes California needs serious reform.
Michaels pointed fingers at Newsom for the damage caused by the ongoing fires. She thinks a lot of it could have been avoided. “Thousands of people will be financially devastated by this,” she added.
California has seen a noticeable political shift recently, especially in the 2024 Presidential Election. More men from various backgrounds are leaning right, and new voters are boosting GOP numbers.
“The state gained far more red voters in this previous election,” Michaels noted. She expects changes in the next governor’s race.
Newsom, who might run for president in 2028, will finish his term in 2026 and can’t run again. Michaels criticized the state’s inconsistent policies, like a 2014 measure meant to improve water systems that hasn’t delivered new reservoirs in over a decade.
Calls for Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to resign have grown since the wildfires began. Another bill aimed at improving wildfire preparedness was vetoed by Newsom in September.
“If California were a company, it has a bad operator, period. It doesn’t matter what party he belongs to,” Michaels concluded.
