A large crane is back on site for the Caldew Crossing project, part of the CSLR development in Carlisle, enhancing local transport links.

The CSLR will connect Junction 42 of the M6 to the A595. It’s going to have new junctions that link up with existing roads in Carlisle and the planned Garden Village.
They’re also building bridges over two major railway lines and the Caldew and Petteril rivers. Plus, there will be footpaths, cycleways, and a lot of landscaping to make it nice.
In the coming weeks, they’ll be lifting the last big beams onto the Caldew Crossing. Two new shared-use foot and cycle bridges are going up at the Newby West and Cummersdale roundabouts.
These new bridges, along with a shared path, will let folks travel safely between Cummersdale and Durdar without worrying about traffic.
There’s a slight change in the route on the A595 as they prepare to build a new culvert for Fairy Beck and get ready for the new Newby West Roundabout.
