Wichita: This past weekend, hundreds of kids in Wichita got to learn ice skating just in time for the upcoming 2025 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Competition. The Skatefest event was hosted by Visit Wichita and the Boys and Girls Club at the Wichita Ice Center.

The kids enjoyed a 30-minute lesson followed by another 30 minutes of skating. It was a blast! They even got to meet Gracie Gold, the 2014 Olympic Gold Medalist. She was super excited to be there and connect with the kids.

Gracie shared that she started skating at eight in Springfield, Missouri, and it felt special to return to the Midwest. She loved seeing so many kids out there, many of them skating for the first time.

With over 300 kids participating, Gracie felt nostalgic, saying it was fun to see kids who reminded her of herself when she started. She’s looking forward to the U.S. Championships happening from January 20-26 at the Intrust Bank Arena. What an exciting time for these young skaters!
