Nine mailboxes exploded in Maryland, prompting an investigation by the state fire marshal for potential suspects and leads.

The explosions took place in quiet, rural spots where mailboxes sit along the road, far from homes. It looks like they happened overnight from Saturday to Sunday. Investigators found bits of fireworks at the scene, which is pretty telling.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office got a call about one blown-up mailbox on Traceys Mill Road in Manchester. They soon discovered eight more, including some on Wentz Road and Cedar Ridge Road.
Master Deputy Oliver Alkire mentioned they don’t have any leads yet, but they’re looking for surveillance footage. Possible charges could include malicious destruction of property and using a destructive device. Thankfully, no homes were damaged, so arson isn’t on the table.
It seems the mailboxes weren’t targeted for any specific reason. Most were plastic, which is just easier to blow up than metal ones. If you know anything about these incidents or have seen any destroyed mailboxes, the fire marshal wants to hear from you at 410-386-3050.
