Maria Menounos revealed she cut ties with a friend who judged her surrogacy choice during a podcast discussion about her motherhood journey
Los Angeles: Maria Menounos recently shared that she ended a friendship because someone judged her for using a surrogate to have a baby. She opened up about this on the “Women in the Nude” podcast.
During the chat, host Sasha Pieterse asked if anyone had given her a hard time about her surrogacy choice. Maria recalled a friend who used to work for her and was once very sweet. But things changed when this friend questioned her decision.
The friend approached Maria’s husband, Keven Undergaro, and asked, “What do you mean she can’t carry? Like, that doesn’t make any sense.” Keven explained that Maria had health issues after a brain tumor removal in 2017, which made it unsafe for her to carry a child.
Maria was taken aback by the friend’s judgment. She said, “I never want to talk to you again, and I never want to see you again.” It really hurt her to be judged by someone who knew her personally.
She mentioned that it’s one thing to be judged by strangers, but it’s another when it’s someone close. Maria and Keven welcomed their daughter, Athena, in June 2023, after going through IVF and surrogacy due to her health complications.
Maria faced another scare during her pregnancy when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer but was later declared cancer-free. She and Keven tied the knot in 2017 and have been through a lot together.
