Migrant crossings have significantly decreased as fears rise ahead of Trump’s inauguration, with many reconsidering illegal entry into the US.

El Paso: So, it looks like migrant crossings into the US are really slowing down. With Trump about to take office, folks are getting nervous about what that means for immigration.
Before the election, there was a huge surge in illegal crossings, with numbers hitting around 8 million under Biden. But now, it’s like a complete turnaround. Border agents are saying the flow has dropped significantly since November.
One officer mentioned that they’re finally getting their “mojo back” since there are fewer migrants to deal with. In some areas, the number of crossings has been cut almost in half. For instance, in El Paso, they were processing about 1,500 migrants a day, and now it’s down to 800.
Over in San Diego, they used to catch around 2,000 migrants daily, but now it’s about 1,000. It seems like Mexico is stepping up its military presence and checkpoints, which might be helping to keep things in check.
However, in Terrell County, there’s been a slight uptick in crossings, but the sheriff says it’s not linked to the upcoming change in administration. Overall, things are calmer compared to the peaks we saw in 2024.
Trump is bringing in Tom Homan, a former ICE director, to lead his border strategy, which includes plans for a massive deportation operation. It’s a big shift from Biden’s approach, which rolled back many strict policies.
With all these changes, it feels like we’re heading back to the pre-Biden days. The immigrant surge during Biden’s term added a noticeable percentage to the US population, but now it seems like the tide is turning again.
