The new Sedgwick County Commissioners were sworn in, marking a shift to an all-Republican board focused on property taxes and transparency.

Blubaugh isn’t new to public service. He spent 11 years on the Wichita City Council and was on the Goddard School Board. Wise is stepping into her first public role. Both have backgrounds in real estate, so they’re keen on tackling rising property taxes.
Blubaugh emphasized the need to help the next generation buy property, calling it key to building wealth. He wants to ensure property evaluations are fair and affordable. He’s all about running the county like a business and cutting down on unnecessary red tape for business owners.
Wise echoed these sentiments, focusing on the impact of property taxes on landlords and businesses. She pointed out that many people don’t fully understand what the County Commission does, but they definitely notice their tax bills.
Transparency is also on her list. She wants to educate voters about the commission’s responsibilities. Both commissioners are eager to collaborate with their colleagues to push their agendas forward.
Blubaugh noted that while Wichita is the largest city in Sedgwick County, he doesn’t want to overlook the other 19 cities. He’s looking for ways to work together for the benefit of all. Additionally, Sedgwick County Treasurer Brandy Bailey and Clerk Kelly Arnold were also sworn in during the ceremony.
