Rankin County: There’s buzz about a big business announcement coming up in 2025. It could be worth over $1 billion, and folks are excited. Regina Todd, the Associate Director of Rankin First, hinted that we might hear something in the first quarter of the year.

This news follows the recent announcement that Compass Datacenters is setting up a massive data center in Meridian, costing around $10 billion. Last year, Amazon Web Services also revealed plans for two new sites in Madison County, each with a similar price tag.

The land in Rankin County is part of a megasite that’s being promoted for development. While this upcoming announcement might not hit the $10 billion mark, it’s still a significant milestone for the area.

Regina Todd shared her enthusiasm for Rankin County, saying it has a diverse industry base. Every community is thriving, not just the bigger towns. In 2024, the county saw impressive growth and boasted the lowest unemployment rate in Mississippi.

Healthcare is a big focus, with expansions at places like Mississippi Sports Medicine and Jackson Heart. Todd noted that most new business in the area comes from existing companies looking to grow.

She mentioned that Siemens in Richland is expanding, which will create over 100 new jobs. Multicraft International in Pelahatchie is also hiring 35 more people soon. Plus, the Mississippi National Guard just finished a $24 million repair facility in the county.

There’s a lot of growth expected along the East Metro Parkway, which just opened in December 2023. Todd emphasized the importance of developing industrial sites quickly to attract new businesses.

The county is working on extending water and sewer services to rail sites, which could lead to more manufacturing opportunities. They’ve also secured 200 acres for future industrial projects.

Todd is optimistic, saying they’re making steady progress in preparing the area for new businesses.
