A nurse in her 50s is in critical condition after being stabbed in the A&E department of Royal Oldham Hospital

A man, 37, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the nurse, in her 50s, was stabbed around 11:30 PM on Saturday. Police say the weapon was not a knife but a sharp instrument.
The hospital is focused on supporting the nurse and her family, assuring that all services remain open. Chief nursing officer Heather Caudle shared her shock and emphasized the need to support the affected staff and patients.
The nurse is currently receiving treatment for her life-changing injuries. Authorities confirmed that they are not seeking any other suspects and believe there’s no ongoing threat to the public.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters reassured the community, stating that police presence will increase to provide support and answer questions.
Local MP Jim McMahon condemned the attack as senseless and expressed his hopes for the nurse’s recovery. He shared his thoughts on social media, emphasizing the community’s shock over the incident.
