A man has been charged with attempted murder after a nurse was stabbed at Royal Oldham Hospital during her shift

The alleged attacker, Roman Haque, 37, from Royton, is facing charges of attempted murder and having a weapon in public. He appeared in court briefly and will be back on February 18.
Police were called around 11:30 PM after reports of the stabbing. They believe a member of the public attacked Cherian in the hospital’s Acute Medical Unit. Sadly, her injuries are serious and could change her life.
The hospital trust expressed shock over the incident and confirmed they’re not looking for anyone else involved. Detective Superintendent Matt Walker shared that their focus is on supporting Cherian and her family during this tough time.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized that nurses should work without fear of violence, calling them the backbone of the NHS. He extended his thoughts to Cherian and her loved ones.
The chief nursing officer at the hospital also expressed sadness and said they’re supporting the affected staff and patients. While we know Cherian is still receiving treatment, details about her injuries and the motive behind the attack remain unclear. Some reports suggest Haque might have been a patient, but that’s not confirmed yet.
