San Antonio: Snow in Texas isn’t all that rare, right? But on January 13, 1985, the city was hit by a snowstorm that was something else.

This wasn’t your typical Texas snow. While Dallas-Fort Worth usually gets the snow, this storm spread across south-central Texas, dropping up to 15 inches in some places.

San Antonio got 13.5 inches, which is still the record for the city. Before this, the most snow they’d seen in a storm was just 6 inches back in 1926.

As you can imagine, everything came to a standstill. For the first time, plows had to clear the runways at San Antonio International Airport.

It was quite a sight to see snow piled up at The Alamo and along the Riverwalk. People were snapping photos left and right!

The last time the airport saw measurable snow was about four years ago, during a crazy cold snap in February 2021, when they got a couple of inches over two days.
