The Premier League has explained the VAR outage during Manchester United’s match against Ipswich Town, clarifying the unusual circumstances.

Portman Road: So, the Premier League just cleared up that weird VAR situation during Manchester United’s game against Ipswich Town. It happened when Ruben Amorim was coaching his first match for United.
On November 24, 2024, United played Ipswich, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Rashford and Hutchinson scored, but there was a hiccup before halftime. Referee Anthony Taylor had to call the captains over to let them know that VAR was down for a bit because of a fire alarm at the Stockley Park hub.
They confirmed this on social media at 5:15 PM, and just four minutes later, they said everything was back to normal. Luckily, there weren’t any big calls that needed VAR during that time or for the rest of the match.
In their latest review, the Premier League Match Centre shared more details about the incident. They explained that the match went on without VAR for a short time due to that fire alarm. The referee kept everyone in the loop, letting both captains and managers know what was happening.
They also mentioned that there are various reasons why VAR might not be available, but matches can still continue. After that first draw, Amorim has managed seven more Premier League games, with two wins, two draws, and three losses under his belt.
