Los Angeles: Margaret Qualley opened up about her experience filming “The Substance.” She said the prosthetics used for the role really messed with her skin. It took her about a year to recover from the damage.

On the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, she explained that by the end of filming, her face was in such bad shape that they had to shoot her from different angles. The film follows an actress, played by Demi Moore, who takes a black-market drug to regain her youth, leading to some wild consequences.

Qualley mentioned that the skin issues even carried over to her next project, “Kinds of Kindness.” She joked that the character she played had acne, which was actually from the prosthetics. She found it fitting for the role, saying it worked out perfectly.

Filming “The Substance” was tough for her, as she told Vogue Australia. The director wanted everything to be precise, which made it challenging for Qualley, who enjoys a more spontaneous approach.

Demi Moore also shared how physically demanding the shoot was for both of them. They often spent weekends resting and recovering, feeling completely worn out. Moore even mentioned spending hours in the makeup chair to transform into her character, which required a lot of patience and stillness.
