A car chase in Portola ended with an SFPD SUV crashing into a building, injuring two officers and the suspect

San Francisco: Early Monday morning, around 3:40 am, there was a wild car chase in Portola. It ended with an SFPD SUV and a suspect’s car crashing into a building at San Bruno and Paul avenues. Both the officers and the suspect were taken to the hospital.
Photos from KTVU show the aftermath. The SFPD SUV hit the building hard, and the white sedan they were chasing also smashed into it. Thankfully, the injuries seem minor for everyone involved.
NBC Bay Area shared some video footage showing the damage. The SUV’s front end was pretty banged up, and the white sedan looked just as bad. There were a bunch of ambulances and fire trucks on the scene, which made it look pretty chaotic.
By 6:30 am, the area was still a mess, with broken glass and a police license plate scattered around. A street lamp was knocked over, and a speed limit sign was also on the ground, which added to the scene’s disarray.
Luckily, no one was inside the building when this all went down. The place is a closed liquor store that’s up for sale, so this crash might complicate things for the potential buyers.
As for why the SFPD was chasing the sedan, they haven’t said yet. They’ve recently changed their chase rules, allowing pursuits only if they believe the driver has committed or might commit a serious crime.
