New York: This week, Simone Biles decided to treat herself to a gorgeous light brown Hermès Birkin bag. She shared the news on her Instagram Story, saying she “treated myself to a new lil bby while in New York.”
She was in the city for the VTEX Connect event and brought her husband, Jonathan Owens, along for some moral support. Biles joked about feeling nervous, saying, “baby I was sweaaaating” about the big purchase.
These designer bags are known for their hefty price tags, with similar styles going for around $30,000 on resale sites like Fashionphile. This isn’t Biles’ first Birkin, though; she celebrated becoming the most decorated gymnast in history by buying her first one after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Interestingly, that first bag was a gift from her parents, Ronald and Nellie Biles. Just recently, she shared her shopping experience at a Hermès store in Paris, teasing her followers with different color options and a glimpse of the famous orange box after making a purchase.
A few days later, she humorously revealed on Threads that her parents actually paid for the bag, telling her critics, “don’t be mad at me, be mad at your parents.”
Earlier this month, Biles was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year for 2024. In her interview, she reflected on her career and hinted at her future plans, saying, “I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done.”
