Wichita: Snow is hanging around, but it’s about to get a little help. Overnight, temperatures will drop, but not too much, thanks to a warmer flow moving in.

Expect more sunshine and some warmth to push temperatures closer to normal from Thursday to Friday, with highs reaching the upper 30s and 40s. If you’re in areas without snow, you might even see temps hit the 50s.

But don’t get too comfy! An Arctic front is on its way, moving south through the region on Friday. A few rain showers might pop up in Southeast Kansas before moving out. Winds will pick up first in the west and then spread east by Friday night, with gusts hitting 30-45 MPH as that cold air rolls in.

Saturday’s warmest temps will be around midnight, and then they’ll drop into the teens and twenties throughout the day. Clouds will cover the area, bringing a chance for flurries and light snow, especially in Western Kansas. Any snow accumulation will be light, under an inch, but those gusty winds will make it feel even colder, with wind chills dropping to -5 to -15 degrees.

Another system will keep the clouds around Sunday into Monday, with a quick chance for light snow in the western half of our area. This could bring a bit more snow to Southwest Kansas, but still light overall.

The cold will really set in, with lows on Monday and Tuesday mornings dipping below zero in parts of northern Kansas. A Cold Weather Advisory is likely to be issued soon for this dangerous cold. We won’t see any relief from the chill until mid to late next week.

Here’s the KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Chief Meteorologist Lisa Teachman: Tonight will be mostly clear with a low of 27 and winds from the southwest. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with a high of 45. Tomorrow night will be partly cloudy with a low of 32.

Looking at the Wichita Weekly: Friday’s high will be 47 with a low of 25, partly cloudy and breezy. Saturday’s high will drop to 30 with a low of 8, mostly cloudy and windy. Sunday’s high will be 18 with a low of 4, mostly cloudy and breezy. Monday’s high will be 17 with a low of 5, mostly to partly cloudy. Tuesday’s high will be 23 with a low of 10, mostly sunny and windy. Wednesday will see a high of 32 and a low of 18, mostly sunny and breezy.
