The Supreme Court is set to rule on TikTok’s future amid national security concerns and a looming deadline

TikTok is a big deal in the U.S., with around 170 million users. The justices are looking at a free speech challenge against the law, which kicks in on Sunday. A lawyer for TikTok warned that the app would “go dark” if the court doesn’t step in.
During the arguments, it seemed like most justices were leaning towards upholding the law. But there’s a twist! President-elect Donald Trump is now considering ways to keep TikTok alive, despite his previous support for a ban. His new national security adviser hinted at this on TV.
It’s a bit murky what Trump can actually do, but he might tell the Justice Department to hold off on enforcing the law. The Supreme Court hinted they’ll announce at least one decision on Friday, and many are hoping it’s about TikTok.
Usually, the court shares decisions on days they’re in session, and the next one is Tuesday. But this time, they won’t be reading opinions in the courtroom. Instead, any decisions will be posted online after 10 a.m. EST on Friday.
