Las Vegas: A man named Jason Kendall is facing serious charges for the death of Larissa Garcia, a sex worker. He was found competent to stand trial recently.

Back in June, Kendall admitted to choking Garcia for about ten minutes after hiring her. He then left the scene. Initially, he was deemed not competent and sent for treatment, but now he’s ready to face the court.

Activists have been honoring Garcia’s memory, pushing for better protections for sex workers. They showed up in court wearing shirts that read “Justice for Larissa Garcia.” While they were glad about Kendall’s competency ruling, they were frustrated by the delays in the case.

One activist, Nina Nova, expressed that this should have happened months ago. They believe the competency ruling was unfair and halted justice. They pointed out that Kendall had called the police claiming Garcia died from an overdose, suggesting he understood his actions.

A toxicology report showed no drugs or alcohol in Garcia’s system, and she was known to live a sober life. Activists feel like the system often fails them, and they’re determined to keep the pressure on.

Kendall’s lawyer plans to challenge the competency finding, with the next court date set for January 22. Activists are committed to attending every hearing to ensure accountability.

Garcia’s death highlights the ongoing violence against sex workers. Activists are advocating for the decriminalization of sex work, believing it would provide better protections and access to healthcare.

They argue that the real danger lies in how society treats sex workers, not the work itself. Recent laws aimed at combating sex trafficking have only made things worse, increasing penalties and violence against those in the profession.
