Los Angeles: The wildfires in L.A. are really intense right now. People are evacuating their homes as flames spread across the area. It’s been a tough time, with fires starting on January 7, leading to destruction and sadly, at least 13 lives lost.

There are four major fires, including the Palisades Fire, which is the biggest and still not contained. With evacuation orders in place, many folks are turning to social media to share their “evacuation hauls.” They’re showing what they grabbed while leaving for safety.

One TikTok user, Sami Brielle, shared her experience. She was at a fitness class when the fire broke out. Just two days after moving to West Hollywood, she found herself in a level two evacuation zone. In her video, she calmly packed her bag with important items, saying, “I’m just thinking quickly. But I’m fine, I’m calm and I think I’ll be OK.”

Sami mentioned that talking to her phone felt comforting, almost like keeping a personal diary. She managed to pack one suitcase and left with a neighbor she had just met.

Cal Fire is advising everyone to have a “go bag” ready for emergencies. They suggest creating a Wildfire Action Plan tailored to your needs. This plan should include meeting points, escape routes, and how to communicate if you get separated.

For a quick evacuation, it’s good to have a few essentials ready, like an old pair of shoes and a flashlight. A “go bag” should have a three-day supply of food and water, necessary medications, a change of clothes, and important documents. If you have time, grab valuables, family photos, and chargers for your devices.

If you can prepare your home before leaving, close all windows and doors to keep sparks out, and turn on lights to make your home visible. Move flammable items away from the house and cover windows with fire-resistant materials if possible.

Stay informed about evacuation updates by signing up for L.A. County emergency notifications. If you’ve been exposed to wildfire smoke, the CDC warns about symptoms like coughing and trouble breathing. They recommend checking air quality and using air filters if needed.

Stay safe out there, everyone!
