New York: So, it turns out that the Department of Justice under Trump broke some serious rules back in 2020. They leaked information about investigations into how New York and New Jersey handled COVID in nursing homes, right before the election. Crazy, right?

The inspector general’s report says that three senior officials at the DOJ were in on this plan. They wanted to use these investigations to score political points against Democratic governors Andrew Cuomo and Phil Murphy. Talk about a political play!

They even told the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal about the probes before the states were informed. That’s a big no-no in terms of DOJ policy, especially during an election season.

In August 2020, the DOJ announced they were looking into COVID nursing home deaths in those states, but they didn’t bother to check similar situations in states with Republican governors. It was all about the politics.

The inspector general found that these officials leaked non-public information to select reporters, which led to articles being published just days before the election. One of them even shared links to those articles on social media, which is also against the rules.

Last week, Trump was in court for his felony conviction and used the moment to complain about how unfairly he’s been treated. But honestly, it was his own DOJ that was playing political games.
