Miami: So, it looks like the Hurricanes are shaking things up on their defensive coaching staff. Corey Hetherman, the new defensive coordinator, gets to pick his team now that some positions are open.

Since Miami let go of defensive coordinator Lance Guidry on New Year’s Eve, three defensive coaches have already left. Joe Salave’a, the defensive line coach, is heading back to Arizona, his old school.

Then there’s Chevis Jackson, the cornerbacks coach, who’s off to Wake Forest to coach the defensive backs. And Derek Nicholson, the linebackers coach, is taking a job at Missouri. Neither Wake Forest nor Missouri has confirmed these hires yet.

Jason Taylor is still around as the defensive line coach. Hetherman, who has a background in coaching linebackers at Rutgers and Minnesota, will likely need to bring in one or two new defensive backs coaches to fill the gaps left by Guidry and Jackson. They might also look for someone to help with the defensive tackles alongside Taylor.
