Philadelphia: So, Starbucks is shaking things up a bit. They’re saying you’ll need to buy a drink if you want to hang out or use the restroom. This change is all about making sure paying customers get priority.

Starting January 27, if you want to chill at Starbucks, you’ll need to either buy something or be with someone who does. A rep from Starbucks, Jaci Anderson, mentioned that this is a way to keep the focus on customers who are actually spending money.

They’re putting up signs in every store to let everyone know about this new rule. Staff will be trained to enforce it, and they might even call in local police if needed.

This is a big shift from their open-door policy that started back in 2018 after a controversial incident in Philadelphia. Remember when two Black men were arrested just for asking to use the restroom? That sparked a lot of discussions.

Now, CEO Brian Niccol wants Starbucks to be a cozy spot where people can hang out. He’s all about creating inviting spaces with comfy seating. But it looks like you’ll need to buy a drink to enjoy that vibe.
